Where to sail

Sailing Destinations

If you are chartering for the weekend, then most people tend to stay within the Solent or possibly off to Poole.

From our base in Lymington Yacht Haven you can leave at any state of the tide. Just across the Solent from Lymington is the delightful Yarmouth Harbour. This make a lovely overnight stay in this bustling Isle of Wight harbour, with its pubs and restaurants.

A little but further east from Yarmouth is Newtown Creek – this is owned by the National Trust and is a very popular place to either spend a few hours for lunch or even overnight. It can however get very busy!

Yet further east and this time on the mainland is the entrance to the Beaulieu River. You can then have a pleasant motor up the river, past some lovey big houses, before you reach Bucklers Hard where there is a Marina.

Alternatively you can head up Southampton water, (watch out for the cruise ships) and either visit Southampton itself or head up the Hamble where you have the choice a of number of marinas.

Back to the Isle of Wight you do of course have Cowes which is always busy especially the pubs and restaurants. If it’s a race weekend (and usually someone is racing) it can get very crowded in the Marinas. You could go further up the Medina to East Cowes or further still to The Folly Inn.

If you want to head further east, then you can or course head into Portmouth Harbour. Here you have the choice of the Marinas in Gosport or going further up To Port Solent.
If your charter is longer than a weekend – then west you have Poole, Weymouth, Portland after that it’s a long slog across Lyme Bay.
